  1. Thanks @andrew59it and @John18D, appreciate your comments. I base coated in Gaianotes gray surfacer Evo GS01. Rubbed back then 2 coats of decanted TS26 white, then 2 coats of decanted TS45 pearl white.
  2. Slow progress on this build for some reason. Decals all done, need to let them dry, then clean up before clearing coating with Gravity 2K. First time I will be using this clear coat. Have also made a start of the large amount of carbon fibre work to be done. Will spray this with satin clear.
  3. Hey John - yes, the magnets are a little too large, but I think they have worked ok. If I get all the detail on, the fairings probably wont fit anyway! No matter where I looked, I couldn't find any 1mm x 1mm, so settled for the 1mm x 2mm.
  4. That’s a sweet, sweet build. Beautifully clean. Congratulations.
  5. Have made a start. I'm using magnets for the fairings this time. These are 2mm x 1mm. Just have to make sure you get the orientation correct. Need to fill the holes before primer. Surgery about to begin.
  6. Next build on the bench, 2005 Valencia Anniversary edition Yamaha YZR-M1, with a few extra details. Have had this kit in the stash for a long time and @Thanh Nguyen has inspired me to give the Top Studio detail set a go.
  7. Aaaaanddd... we're done. Quite a few flaws, but I'm really happy with how this came out. That happy sad stage, build over and pleased, now need to decide which of the stash to work on next!
  8. Entering the home stretch now. I have really enjoyed this kit.
  9. I use the LP paints almost exclusively now - their metallic colours are truly spectacular and very tough.
  10. @andrew59it the finish on the tank is SUPERB! As is the entire build. Which clear coat have you used?
  11. Thanks @John18D! Welcome back 😁 I was really happy how the chambers turned out. I used TS15 blue, TS26 white and LP21 Italian Red for the body and a mix for the chambers - a base of Mr Color Super Titanium; a little Alclad clear blue and red; Gaianotes clear black and clear brown; finished with a dusting of MRP burnt metal violet. The was is Tamiya panel line accent - black. The 40mm masking tape is "fibrous" as @mueller points out. Will have to get better with the thin vinyl stuff. Some more progress:
  12. Body panels all polished and awaiting the inside coat of carbon black. Engine mounted into frame - I need to tidy up some wash tide marks.... Expansion chambers fitted. I'm quite satisfied with the finish of the chambers. Perhaps a little more clear brown to overcome the violet hue - but it's more pronounced in the photos than it actually is. I started with a base of Mr Color Super Titanium; a little Alclad clear blue and red; Gaianotes clear black and clear brown; finished with a dusting of MRP burnt metal violet.
  13. Thanks @mueller, I agree, the vinyl tape is much better and will use when I can in the future. I placed the masking tape over the decals as a template. The vinyl tape is not as transparent.
  14. Used the last of my Finishers GP1 urethane clear, awesome stuff. Very happy with the finish, will lightly sand and polish next weekend. Frame finished in Mr Color Fine Silver
  15. Started the decals.... Mixed results... The side number "plate", made up of three parts went down very well, as did the front panel. But, the number broke up when I sliced with a new scalpel blade (so much for doing Randy Mamola's bike). Even the 1 was problematic and is very brittle.
  16. Far from perfect, but I'll settle with how it turned out and use the white stripe decals to clean up the stripes...
  17. Great build so far @andrew59it! I agree, the tubing attachment points will break if you even look at them!
  18. Absolutely spectacular @SANDRO! Beautifully clean build.
  19. Quick update. A few areas to touch up, not perfect, but satisfied overall.
  20. Wow, not much action 'round here these days! We're in serious lockdown here in Melbourne. I'm working from home, but not getting much "bench" time in. So have cowls masked up ready to go. Will throw some paint at them tomorrow. Main engine painted. Stay safe everyone!
